Epilepsy is a devastating neurological disease affecting about 1 % of the population. Symptomatic treatment is achieved by pharmacological agents in approximately 70% of patients, and only for a small proportion of the remaining 30% there are non-pharmacological very efficacious alternatives such as surgical intervention. Therefore, there is a great unmet medical need for alternative treatment strategies.
