Professors Anders Björklund and Olle Lindvall. The collaboration with Lund University is based at the Wallenberg Neuroscience Center and entails projects concerning neurodegeneration, neural stem cells, and cell and gene based treatment of neurodegenerative disorders. Professors Anders Björklund and Olle Lindvall head the Lund collaboration and oversee the preclinical R&D and clinical development respectively. Professor Anders Björklund is a world-leading scientist with more than 20 years' experience in neurodegenerative diseases. Since the early 1980's, Professor Lindvall's team has pioneered the use of intracerebral cell transplantation in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Professor Åke Seiger is heading the collaboration with Karolinska Institute within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Geriatric Medicine. Karolinska Institute collaborates with NsGene on its Alzheimer's program and on generating human neural cell lines for its discovery program. Professor Åke Seiger has performed many years of research on neurodegenerative diseases and spinal cord injury and was principal investigator in trials evaluating nerve growth factor infusion for Alzheimer's disease.
Professor Patrick Aebischer at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland collaborates with NsGene on the biodelivery program. Through this collaboration, NsGene benefits from more than 10 years' experience with encapsulated cells biodelivery technology. Professor Patrick Aebischer is the president of the EPFL and one of the inventors of the EC BiodeliveryTMtechnology. He has been the principal investigator in several pre-clinical and clinical studies carried out using the EC BiodeliveryTM technology platform.
