Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a neurological condition affecting the nervous system. It is characterised by transient but recurrent disturbances of brain function that may or may not be associated with impairment or loss of consciousness and abnormal movements or behaviour. It can be related to a brain injury or a family disposition, but most of the time the cause is unknown.
Epilepsy affects about 1% of the population. Symptomatic treatment is achieved by pharmacological agents in approximately 70% of patients, and only for a small proportion of the remaining 30% are there alternatives such as surgical intervention. Therefore, there is a great unmet medical need for alternative treatment strategies.
NsGene is conducting pre-clinical investigations with a novel approach to treatment as it uses its proprietary EC Biodelivery TM technology to deliver the neuropeptide galanin directly into the brain in the vicinity of the epileptogenic focus in order to suppress the epileptic seizures. The product name for the treatment of epilepsy using the proprietary EC Biodelivery TM technology is NsG0501.
