NsG0301 - EC Biodelivery for Parkinson’s disease
In this preclinical program, NsGene uses its proprietary EC BiodeliveryTM technology to deliver GDNF directly in the brain to enhance dopamine production through neuroprotection and neuroregeneration with the overall project goal to provide efficacy data and proof-of-concept data for a commercial development of an anti-parkinsonism EC BiodeliveryTM product.
Many animal studies have shown that GDNF has pronounced anti-parkinsonism effects. However, this neurotrophic protein cannot pass the blood-brain-barrier, and must be delivered directly to the affected brain area to be efficacious and safe.
Preclinical safety studies are in progress under a grant by the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the first clinical study in patients with Parkinson’s disease will commence in 2013.

In the seven major markets more than 1.4 million people suffer from Parkinson’s disease. Key clinical unmet needs are disease modifying therapy, better efficacy, and reduced side effects.
In 2009 the total market for antiparkinson drugs was 2.2 billion USD (Datamonitor).
